DPS multiplies damage by the game's shot delay; weapons without a cyclic limit (manual actions) show no DPS figure.
Getting your first weapon
- Crude bow + wooden arrows: hand-crafted once you unlock rope — the day-one hunting tool. Silent, arrows recoverable.
- Found firearms: military crates and corpses in dangerous areas hold pistols and rifles; a day-one route to a pistol exists at a military site (see the walkthrough).
- Weapon bench: the story unlocks it around chapter 4 ("Parking Zoo" teaches it and asks for 30 crafted rounds). Scrapping a looted weapon returns weapon parts for recrafting.
- Ammo crafting: scrap, gunpowder (sulfur + scrap) and, for rifle calibers, quality metal.
Practical notes
- Bows don't aggro a whole camp; firearms do. Stealth hunts favor bows.
- Durability matters: firearms chew through it fast — carry repair materials or a spare.
- Damage numbers are from the game files; what you feel in a firefight also depends on your Firearms skill and the target's armor.
FAQ
What's the best weapon? By raw DPS the SW-54 Volkodav; by value-per-shot the BA-37 bolt-action hits hardest per bullet. Early on, the compound bow outclasses every gun you can afford to feed.
Melee weapons? Tools double as melee — the sledgehammer line hits hardest (refined moonrock sledgehammer: 40 damage / 80 power attack).
