Permafrost Crossplay: Steam, GOG, Epic and Consoles

Updated:

Quick answer: No crossplay yet. Permafrost launched simultaneously on Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store (October 9, 2026), but cross-store play is not live. There are no console versions during Early Access at all.

Status by platform pair

Pair Status (Oct 13, 2026)
Steam ↔ Epic Not live; reported in development
Steam ↔ GOG Not live; unconfirmed
Epic ↔ GOG Not live; unconfirmed
PC ↔ PS5/Xbox No console versions exist

What this means for your group

Buy on the same storefront as your friends. Since the world session is hosted by a player on one store's infrastructure, mixing stores isn't currently possible. If someone in your group hasn't bought yet, standardize on one store first — our buying guide covers the options.

Consoles

A PlayStation Store page for Permafrost exists with no release date, and the team has indicated consoles are more likely for the 1.0 release than during Early Access. No Xbox version has been announced. Any crossplay question involving consoles is moot until those versions exist.

Watching for changes

Cross-store play is the kind of feature that arrives in a patch note. Watch the Steam news hub or our updates page — we'll log it when it's real.

FAQ

If cross-store play launches, will my world transfer? Unknown — worlds are host-bound today; don't plan around transfers.

Is the Mac Crossover workaround affected? Community-reported Crossover play on Apple Silicon uses the Steam Windows build, so it follows Steam's rules.
